Overall Job Purpose:
The role is within the Eastern Syndicate, which looks after Members from the Indian subcontinent. The Middle East and across Asia to Australia. This specific role will entail providing claims handling service to Members mainly based in Hong Kong, China & Taiwan.
Key Responsibilities:
- To promote the relationship between the Club and existing Members for which the Claims team is responsible.
- To handle assigned claims in accordance with company procedures, provide advice on claims related issues and identify the need for loss prevention activity.
- To ensure that all electronic correspondence, whether received or sent, relating to claim files assigned to the particular individual is promptly and correctly filed in accordance with the agreed working practices and to maintain and keep updated such electronic files.
- To delegate appropriate work and assist in the development of the capabilities of Claims Assistants to maximise their potential.
- To contribute to the continuous development of company procedures and systems.
- To produce relevant articles for inclusion in Club publications.
- To support the Syndicate Underwriting objectives.
- To carry out any other duties that are within the scope of personal skills and abilities whenever reasonably instructed.
- To attend appropriate training and to develop relevant knowledge and skills.
- To carry out any other ad hoc duties as required.
Person Specification:
- Degree holder preferably in LLB or LLM in Maritime Law or overseas qualified Lawyers
- Proven P&I Claims handling experience gained from working at another P&I Club, Law firm or possibly a large broker firm or Shipowner firm
- P&I Claims handling experience
- Excellent communication skills as you will need to build up and maintain relationships with Shipowner Members
- Highly organised, and enthusiastic with an excellent attention to detail and prioritising individual workload
- The ability to work with people at all levels and within a small team
- Eligibility to work in Hong Kong
